The Association for the Protection of Food Safety and Improved Nutrition, APFSAN has trained 40 Youths Corps members as safe food and nutrition vanguards in Kebbi State.
Kebbi State Coordinator of APFSAN, Dr. Yusuf Abdulrahman Bashir said the objective of the training was to boost the capacity of the youths corps members and other APFSAN members in the state on the basic knowledge of safe handling of foods and nutrition.
He said the youths corps members are critical stakeholders in the efforts to ensure a safe food and nutrition in the society.
"We expect that by the end of this two day capacity building training they will be able continue with the campaign on food safety in their various place of primary assignment.
The APFSAN coordinator said this was not the first time the association is building capacity of youths corps members in kebbi State on safe handling of foods and nutrition.
He said APFSAN is collaborating with NYSC authorities, government and other state institutions to ensure the campaign against poor handling of foods in the state is successful and sustained.
He added that it's expected that in five years time,the campaign on safe handling of foods by APFSAN would have spread across the society and people would have adopted it and remain safe in their food handling and cases of food borne deseases would have reduced in the society.
