The Association of Nigerian Landlords and Tenants has tasked the administration of Bola Ahmed Tinubu to extend its subsidy removal on humongous salaries and allowances enjoyed by governors, lawmakers, and others to stabilize the dwindling economy.
The President of the union, Prince Rilwan Zaid Ojora Akiolu, said, “While we appreciate Nigerian Labour Union on its suspension of her planned nationwide strike, we would also implore President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to put in place an intervention that will alleviate the sufferings of Nigerians as his government has maintained its stand on total subsidy removal.
Akiolu said, “The landlord and tenant association of Nigeria is supporting the federal government in totality in removing the fuel subsidy. While past administrations were unable to do it, Buhari’s government has done it, and if Tinubu’s government is willing to go ahead and put it to rest finally, we would stand by his administration and also canvass for the abolishment of humongous salaries and allowances enjoyed by federal lawmakers, governors, and other political office holders. Nigeria at this point in time needs to curb its excess if we must be out of economic doldrums.”
The association stated further, “We would at this point appreciate the labour union suspending its planned nationwide strike against the new government on subsidy removal. During political campaigns, all contestants, including Bola Tinubu, Atiku Abubakar, and Peter Obi said there would be no more fuel subsidies, if they all said that, Nigerians today, should all come out to support Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s government. He was not the one that removed it, Buhari did, and we should all stand by this government on the decision to finally remove the subsidy.
Akiolu stressed further that, “Fuel subsidy has really done a great danger to our economic growth. A sum of $10 billion dollars was paid every year and yet there is no way forward. Nigerians are suffering, and this government needs to work more on reducing unnecessary wastage, humongous salaries, and allowances must be checked. We would continue to stand and support this government, while we implore every Nigerian to bear with this new administration on fuel subsidy removal, while government too must find other means to make life better for the populace.
