| Some LGBT+ Raided by Police in Lagos |
Following recent trends on social media where some individuals who identify as queer were visibly encouraging and associating themselves with activities perceived to be unnatural in light of Nigerian Laws, the Nigeria Police Force hereby wishes to enlighten the public on the legal aspects concerning unnatural offenses on same-sex marriage within the country.
He said, in its fight against unlawful gathering, some arrests were made recently in Lagos, where some alleged young men that were involved in gay practices are now in police custody.
Trouble broke loose when an anonymous caller invited men of the Nigerian Police force to a gathering at a bar located around Liverpool Road, Apapa in Lagos.
The incident we learnt happened on the 30th of March, 2023 around 8:40 pm, the Nigerian Police having been tipped off swooped on them at Cynergy Suites, Liverpool Road, Apapa, Lagos. Some men were rounded up while some took to their heels upon the arrival of armed men from a police station in the area.

Those arrested according to a close source said they were as follows, Abiodun Aninaba, Francis Owolabi, Jeremiah Koleoso, Gabriel Fadahunsi, Ebenezer Sotayo, Jubril Tunde and Ayodeji Mathew.
Upon interrogation, Francis, one of the alleged Gay apprehended by Police stated that the club members lived a bisexual life, having a wife at home and living an LGBT+ lifestyle.
He said they use this charade marriage to cover up the forbidden lifestyles, amongst them, one Ahmed Atanda's name was mentioned and two others that the society sees as married men with a wife, but are also LGBT+.
Our reporter learnt that the club meets every last Saturday of the month at 6 pm usually at any chosen bar in different locations around the neighbourhood. This they have been doing for some years now, while Nigerian Police have been on their trail without a hoot knowledge by any member of the group.
Also, we reliably gathered that members of this illicit union engage in sexual acts but put up a facade of running an association that fends for one another. Still, underneath, they practice homosexualism pairing themselves as they have romantic affairs.
A Police officer who chose to remain anonymous said, those arrested have started singing, and names of big shots among them that have absconded have been mentioned.
One Ahmed Temitope Atanda, a digital marketer, now at large was mentioned by his fellow gay arrested, also another prominent member that has been on our wanted list, Julius Chinedu has been declared wanted.
The source at the station hinted this medium that those arrested have been taken to court while the Police have continued their search and possible arrest of those that are now at large, especially Ahmed Temitope Atanda, one of the top-notch, whose record of gay practice has spanned over the years.
Some pictures of those declared wanted by the Police are now on social media for possible assistance by members of the public who are also not in support of such practice as the Nigerian system forbids such in her society.
The Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters Abuja, Muyiwa Adejobi stated that by the Nigerian Criminal Code Act applicable in Southern States, unnatural offenses are prohibited under Sections 214 to 217.’ These sections specifically criminalize acts considered unnatural, such as having carnal knowledge of a person, or permitting a person to have carnal knowledge of one against the order of nature, or having carnal knowledge of an animal, and those found guilty may face legal consequences as outlined by the law. This is re-echoed by Section 284 of the Nigerian Penal Code applicable in the Northern part of the country.’
Adejobi reiterated that it is imperative to note that same-sex marriage is strictly prohibited in Nigeria. The Same-Sex Marriage (Prohibition) Act of 2014 criminalizes the solemnization, operation, and public display of same-sex marriages.
He said that it is important to understand and adhere to these laws as any violation will be met with due legal processes. We remain dedicated to maintaining law and order and call on all citizens to report all suspicious activities related to unnatural offences or same-sex marriage, providing crucial information that will aid our efforts to enforce the law. We need to collectively kick against such while we urge parents and guardians to take note and support the Police in the fight against such inhuman activities which are alien to our culture and also punishable under the law.
