The two Kebbi beach soccer Clubs have continued to maintain their lead in the Nigeria Beach Soccer League for 2023.
At the conclusion of round 1 of the league at the filin sukuwar in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi BSC was in first place with a maximum of nine points, followed by Kebbi United with eight points from wins over Lagos Smart City, Kwara, Kada and Akwa Ibom beach soccer teams.
In the first round of the league, Nmanko Patigi beach soccer club had six points, Kada BSC three points while Smart City of Lagos and Ibom BSC had zero points each.
The first round of the league ended after three games in Birnin Kebbi. According to the National Coordinator of NBSL, Malam Mahmud Hadeja, six clubs are participating in the league this season.
"It's going to be a straight league. All the six teams will play themselves home and away. They will play 10 matches in all", he said.
The day's highlight in the matches played in Birnin Kebbi included Kebbi BSC and Kada BSC, the league champion which ended in 1-1 draw. But Kada was later defeated by Kebbi BSC' as Fuad Badmus scored two goals in the third round of the game to lead his team to a 3-1 victory over the former champion.
Kebbi United, the second Kebbi State team in the league, defeated Ibom BSC. Usman Manga and Hamza Abubakar each scored three goals to help Kebbi United win three straight games.
For the Kwara team, Jamiu Kunle scored three goals while Abdullahi Manu scored twice in the first round of the league in Kebbi.
The round 3, round 2 of the third Nigeria Beach Soccer League season is expected to be played in Kaduna and the finals in Lagos.
