Kebbi Assembly Declares Seats Of Ex Speaker, 3 Others Vacant

From Samaila Babalola, Birnin Kebbi

Kebbi State House of Assembly at its executive session on Thursday has declared the seats of its former speaker, Samaila Abdulmumini Kamba, and three other members vacant over their defection to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Other affected members are Muhammad Buhari Aliero, Samaila Salihu Bui, and Habibu Labbo Gwandu.

It would be recalled that Abdulmumini Kamba was removed as speaker of the state house of assembly last year over suspicions that he was loyal to the Senator Adamu Aliero group while Samaila Bui after leaving the APC was elected as running mate to the PDP Governorship Candidate in the state.

The Clerk to the house of assembly, Usman Ahmed Bunza in a release said he has been directed to inform the general public that the house after its sitting on Wednesday, 14, 2022  had unanimously resolved to declare the seats of the members vacant.

He said, "I, Usman Ahmed Bunza, Clerk of the Kebbi State House of Assembly have been directed to inform the general public that as a result of their defections from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) their seats have been declared vacant in line with section 109 of the 1999 constitution of the federal republic of Nigeria".

A few hours before their seats were declared vacant the four house members in a press statement tagged 'Enough of Intimidation and Clampdown on Oppositions by Kebbi State Government' raised alarm over plans to suspend them.

They claimed in the statement that the "Government has concluded plans to clampdown on the oppositions in the house with the objective to suspend us".

"The plan is to silence the oppositions, particularly the PDP members in the house through intimidation and financial inducement to some unscrupulous minds in the house to achieve this purpose", the members said.
