Sardauna Unity Cup: Kebbi All Stars Presents Trophy To Gov Bagudu


The All Stars Football Club of Kebbi State on Tuesday presented the trophy it won in the Sardauna Northern Unity Cup football competition to Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu.

Kebbi All Stars Football Club last week defeated Nasarawa State Football Club in the final of the competition played in Nasarawa state by 6 goals to 5 through a penalty kick.

The Sardauna Northern Unity Cup football competition was initially played between the three states of Kebbi, Sokoto, and Zamfara. It was later expanded to include all 19 northern states but only 15 states participated in this year's competition.

The unity Cup football competition is for northern states old football stars. They must be above 40 years old to participate in the tournament.

While receiving the players and the trophy at the Conference Hall of the Cabinet Office in Birnin Kebbi, Governor Abubakar Atiku Bagudu said the state club has brought laurels to the state by winning the trophy. 

The Governor who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Babale Umar Yauri enjoined the players to keep their spirits high and do more in the competition next year. "It's a big honour you have done to the people of Kebbi State", he said.

Speaking earlier the state chairman of NFF Alhaji Abubakar Chika Ladan said the trophy was presented to the Governor because he has been very supportive of the team, "Governor Bagudu and patron of the team have always been at the forefront seeking support and other things that will keep the team going", he said.

Ladan said the Kebbi State football association has never had it this good until Bagudu administration decided to recognize the essence of football among youth in the state. 


He said to encourage the youth to get involved in the international leagues, he established Kebbi State Football Academy and Kebbi State All Stars Football Club. "Today some of the youth are currently playing with football clubs in Portugal, Egypt, and others  Two of them were currently invited by clubs in Portugal", he said.
