The Lagos Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Olusegun Ogungbemide, has charged motorists, especially those plying the Lekki-Epe Expressway, to avoid wrong overtaking, and be safety conscious at all times.
He stated this as an aftermath of the crash involving a fully loaded tanker with PMS, a truck, and a motorcycle on Sunday in front of the Eleganza factory at the Lekki-Epe Expressway. A total of six persons were reportedly killed in the resulting inferno. The corpses had been deposited at the mortuary.
A statement by the Corps’ Public Education Officer, Route Commander Olabisi Sonusi, noted that Ogungbemidede has promised the public that a combined team of responders including FRSC, Lagos Fire service, Nigeria Police, and other sister agencies are making efforts to clear the road and restore normalcy along that axis.
The statement also advised motorists to be careful and drive safe because the crash was a result of the recklessness of the two articulated vehicles while trying to overtake each other. He further sued for patience and discipline among road users to prevent crashes
He reiterated the Command’s clampdown on reckless truck drivers, and rickety vehicles, saying that total compliance is within reach.
