Two persons were confirmed dead while two others sustained varying degrees of injuries on Saturday in an accident involving a Mack truck tanker and a Toyota Hiace bus at Lenuwa, new Makun on the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.
Mr Babatunde Akinbiyi, the Public Relations Officer, Ogun Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Corps (TRACE) confirmed the incident to News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abeokuta.
Akinbiyi explained that the accident occurred at 6am and it involved a Mack truck marked AKD 549 XL and a commercial Toyota bus with registration number KSF 259 CQ.
The TRACE spokesman stated that the accident was caused by brake failure and lost of control on the part of the tanker and in the process ran into the bus in its front.
He said that four men were involved in the accident, two of them died while the other two were injured.
Akinbiyi explained that the deceased had been deposited at the morgue of Idera Hospital, Sagamu while the injured were receiving treatment at same hospital.
He said that the driver of the truck ran away from the scene of the crash to avoid being lynched.
He commiserated with the families of the deceased.
Akinbiyi urged articulated vehicle drivers to ensure proper maintenance of their vehicles and avoid speeding as well as dangerous driving.(NAN)
