Some concerned indigenes of Suurulere in Lagos have condemned the claim by Oba Lateef Atanda Adams, that he controls Suurulere as part of his domain.
According to a source in the community, he said Oba Lateef Atanda has only right over his domain in Itire Ikate and it was well spelt by government on the day of his installation where the government officials that read out his letter read as follows: "On behalf of his Excellency the governor of Lagos state, Mr. Akinwunmi Dapo Ambode, the executive governor of Lagos state, in essence of powers conferred on me, under section 22, sub section one of the Oba and chieftaincy law... hereby approve Prince Lateef Adams Akinwunmi as the Oba of Ikate, in Itire Ikate local government council development area of Lagos state."
With the above statement by government, we found it absurd when we see some of the inscriptions and claims by Oba Lateef Adams as follows: ONIKATE OF IKATE,. SUURULERE, LAGOS. This claim is untrue because the monarch is Oba of Ikate in Itire Ikate local government not Suurulere as he claims to be.
"The record has to be set straight to avoid unnecessary conflict of interest between C0heifs and other subjects in the area. It is an obvious fact that Suurulere local government and Itire Ikate Ikate local government are different entity with government officials running them separately."
Another member of the public in the area also said Suurulere is big enough to have its king and those concerned are not looking away as regards that, so therefore it won't do any good to the community if there are claims by the monarch that the area is part of his rule while government too never mentioned such on the day he was being presented his staff of office.
