Another Death In Nollywood? UCH Ibadan, Veteran Actors React

The University College Hospital, Ibadan, Oyo State, has described as false a viral report that Ebun Oloyede, popular Yoruba actor widely known as Olaiya Igwe, has been confirmed dead at the hospital on Monday.

Report went viral on social media, on Monday, that Igwe passed on shortly after undergoing a major surgery on kidney stone at the tertiary teaching hospital.

The Public Relations Officer of UCH, Toye Akinrinola, told The Point that he was not aware of his death.

“I am not aware of anything like that. A journalist had called me earlier on the matter. We just checked; there is no record of him at the Emergency Unit of the hospital. At least, if he died at the hospital, the Mortuary record should have revealed that to us,” Akinrinola said.

When we called, veteran actors, Awofe Afolayan, Yemi My lover both dispelled the news of his death.

Awofe said, “Rumour of his death is untrue. Olaiya is still very much alive. I spoke with his wife this evening on the telephone about an hour ago and he was very much alive.”

One of Olaiya Igwe’s fans had posted on the social media that he was confirmed dead on Monday morning at the UCH, Ibadan, while undergoing a kidney stone surgery.

Recall that Olaiya Igwe had, last week Tuesday in Abeokuta, Ogun State, marked his birthday anniversary with his teaming fans celebrating him on social media.
