International Women’s Day: Owansaoye seeks women to invest in self development

In its bid to better the lives of women, Human Development Initiatives, a non-governmental Agency has organized a program tagged A day Out with Wives; a program for married women between the ages 20-50 years.

In a press release shared with this medium, the agency said the program is meant to commemorate International Women’s Day celebration that comes up on the 8th of March of every year.

The statement reads in part, The International Women’s Day is celebrated on the 8th of March of every year, the world over. Different events are organized annually by Organizations, governments, charities, educational institutions, women’s groups, and the media to commemorate the day and restate their commitment to sustaining efforts on gender equality, women’s rights and empowerment. This year's Day has been announced with the broad theme ‘Women in leadership: Achieving an equal future in a COVID-19 world. To mark year 2021 International Women’s Day, Human Development Initiatives is organizing a special event tagged: A Day Out with Wives with the theme “Understanding the new normal: empowering women to deal with health and Socio-economic Implications." 

Also, Mrs. Olufunso Owasanoye, the Executive Director of HDI Nigeria

said,
All women have the right to stand tall against discrimination, exploitation, violence and intimidation." According to her, "After this program, I want you to take a personal decision to invest in self-development, build your capacity, so as to be able to fully participate and get involved in contributing to local, national and global development. I want to encourage you to always make   a   difference   wherever   you   find   yourself; to   challenge   inequality, injustice and all forms of abuse and non-inclusiveness against yourself, other women and children.

"A day Out with Wives is a program for married women (wives) between ages 20-50 years. The aim of the program is to build the capacity of married women to better handle psychological and socio-economic challenges especially in the context of a worldwide pandemic.

"HDI also wishes to call on the government to invest more in providing affordable healthcare system and support Entrepreneurship drive of women while prioritizing their economic empowerment." She said.
