"It was a beautiful beginning they had together, but along the line, the issue of trust sets in, and a once blissful union becomes threatened."
This was her words as Funmilola Amosun, a Nollywood star, gave insight about her new movie, The Confidant.
Top fuji star, Alhaji Wasiu Alabi Pasuma, Ibrahim Chatta, Antar Laniyan, Jaye Kuti and other notable star actors will be featuring in a new movie titled ‘The Confidant’ as Funmilola Amosun relaunches herself back into the industry having left years ago.
Funmilola Amosun is a Yoruba movie actress, who joined the Nigerian film industry in 2003 and took a break in 2006. To many of her colleagues then, her action was considered being irrational having dumped acting for her boyfriend she wasn’t sure of having a future with. In her words said, “I left the podium when the ovation was very loud. Abruptly, my boyfriend then, now my husband pleadingly begged me to quit acting and concentrate on our love. Very painful then, and today, I have got a wonderful home with this great man I love and appreciate so much.
The Confidant, her new movie is an initiative of Fumerries film productions that has others like, John Olakunle Dasilva, Bimbo Oshin, Fausat Balogun, Ronke Ojo, Adebayo Salami, Fabian Fadugba, Olamilekan Oseni, Tosin Williams, Ricardo Agbor and others.
Omolabi Amosun said, “I am
set to storm the entertainment scene with a new movie that is star studded.
Having left as an upcoming Actor, now I am returning as a producer.
Going down memory lane, she said, “Initially, I never consider acting as a way of life for me, because I knew quite well that my parents would never allowed me.
“My younger sister was a
student of one computer school, there was a day I went to see her and after the
lesson she told me she wanted to attend a rehearsal. I was wondering what
rehearsal and out of curiosity I had to stay and watch. Seeing the way the whole
thing went, I got fascinated with what they were doing and I decided going to
location just to be around them.
“I am from a Christian
home, my dad is a Prophet while Mum is a Prophetess, these two wonderful people
in my life were too strict and I knew too well they would never support any act
that would project me in a way that does not suit their belief. So until I left
home for tertiary institution, I couldn't even put on trousers. That shows how
strict my parents were. So, I couldn’t face them about my acting dream.
“Meanwhile, the popular Chief Kanran of Nollywood movie is a good friend of my dad, being members of a white garment church, they are close friends, he convinced my dad to allow me become an actress, but with a strict warning from dad to be of good conduct.
“When I was about enjoying my
new found love, having taken part in the following movies; Eni moja, Omidan
meje, Ogo Olorun, I was really enjoying it and settling down to acting life and
abruptly my boyfriend, now my husband asked me if I could give it up for his
sake. He knew I loved it, but the love I have for him was more than my passion
for acting and I had to concede to his plea. I gave up acting and he took my
sim card and broke it, He said that would severe my link with my friends in the
industry. I asked him to allow me go to rehearsal for the last time to tell my
friends goodbye.
“I did and they were not
happy at all, some even hurled abusive words at me, but the love I have for my
man was more than what they were seeing. Thereafter, I focused on my life and moved on.
He later called me and promised me he would surprise me when the time comes.
“So, having dated for seven
years, we got married and he told me when the time comes, he would stand by me
and make me a producer.
“Today, it was surprising when he woke me up one day and told me, babe, its time, now you are going to produce your own movie and that is how I have found myself where we are today.
“The beautiful lesson here
is, for a woman, make a home first, once the home is secured, a supportive
husband will always be there with you and for you. I have gotten a wonderful
man that could do anything to make me happy. He knew too well then that acting
was a passion I love so much. I loved being in the midst of actors and also
being part of the process of filming but when I had to give it up for the sake
of love, I did and walked away and today, that man has catapulted me to a content
producer.
The story I am taking to location
was my husband’s idea, he gave me the story and all that is needed to make it a
reality.”
