It was excitement
galore for the family, friends and followers of Chief Robert Opara on Sunday
the 14th October, as Mrs. Ngozi Williams, chairman of the state's 17 member
exco of the PPN formally passed a unanimous consensus resolution to declare
chief Opara as the party's governorship candidate for the 2019 general
elections in Imo state.
The party, whose
leader and presidential candidate is Rtd. Major Hamza AL Mustafa, the former
CSO to the late General Sani Abacha, is waxing very strong in the state.
The party has taken the advantage of the seeming imbroglio amongst other
political parties to open her doors for the registration of new members into
PPN fold.
Mrs. Ngozi Williams
told newsmen during the event that the party is crisis-free with strong
leadership base in preparation for the forthcoming elections in the
state.
She expressed the
party's strong confidence in the intellectual, political and leadership
capacity of Chief Robert Opara's candidature, to secure a victory for the party
in Imo state.
The state's publicity
secretary, Ikechukwu Mbagwu, expressed implicit confidence in chief Robert
Opara, whose leadership qualities and experience are legendary. He indicated
that the chief has local and international experience with unlimited wide
contacts within the international community. He explained that he has the
strong contacts in local and international donor agencies that could be handy
for the desired rapid development of the state and stimulation of economic
activities that would create jobs.
As a multimedia
consultant and aide to the former governor of Sokoto state as well as eight
other state governors of the defunct ANPP under Alhaji Yusuf Ali, he is well
positioned and exposed for the tortuous job of managing the challenges of the
state.
The chairman of
chairmen of local government areas in the stste, Mr. Basil Nwanedo, also
expressed strong conviction about the vision of chief Robert Opara to provide
the strategic leadership that 'Imolites' need at this stage of developmental
crises in the state. He advised Imo people to reject all the parties that have
contributed to the present deplorable condition of the state since 1999.
He accused the PDP,
APC and APGA of grinding the development of the state to a halt because
of egocentric and timid leadership in the state.
Chief Robert Opara
promised to elevate the economic value of the state by deploying his strategic
economic plan which will be geared towards putting Imolites back to work. He
also emphasized that he would frontally address the poor education and health
status of the state. He advised imo people to reject Rochas Okorocha and his
mischievous quest to sneak in Uche Nwosu through the backdoor to protect his
skewed legacy
