The National Working
Committee of the All Progressives Congress has rescheduled governorship
primaries in Lagos, Enugu and Adamawa states.
Governorship primary in Lagos will now hold on
October the 2nd while Enugu and Adamawa state will hold on Thursday, October
the 4th.
The change was announced in a press statement
signed by the acting Publicity secretary of the party, Yekini Nabena
The statement also states that the mode of
primaries for Enugu and Adamawa states have been changed from indirect to
direct primaries.
Meanwhile, different views and massive condemnation
have trailed the world press conference Governor Akinwunmi Ambode had yesterday
as he condemned the candidacy of his rival, Jide Sanwo-Olu.According to the state governor during a
world press conference at Lagos House on Sunday, Ambode has described his
main contender as unfit.
Governor Akinwunmi Ambode said, “We have
never responded to the campaign of calumny on social media. We have one family
in APC. The aspirant being put up to compete against us is not a fit and proper
person to take this job.
“I have done everything in the last
three and half years to serve people selflessly and to serve the poor. This
particular aspirant is somebody that has been arrested for spending fake
dollars in a nightclub in America, and he has been detained for months.
“He doesn’t have the competence to
do what he is being propelled to do. This is somebody that has gone for
rehabilitation before. The records are there at the Gbagada General Hospital.
we don’t want to go to far. Our leadership should have a rethink.
“I
plead with our leaders to have a rethink, It is not about me, it is about the
opportunity that APC has”.
Divergent views have followed the governor’s
outburst. Some are of the opinion that Ambode should have kept quiet and
allowed people and the good work he has done in the state speak for him. Name
calling and accusing his opponent of questionable character only gave the governor
away as not being able to handle a tense situation.
Furthermore, some were of the opinion that is
coming out to tell the world what he felt about the situation on ground could
as well help him clear the air as regards different allegation hauled at him.
Meanwhile, Sanwo-Olu denied claims
that he had a problem with law enforcement in the United States, and that he
underwent rehabilitation at a Lagos hospital.
He said his race for the Lagos Government House
will continue to be based upon issues that matter to Lagosians and promised to
make investments in education, health, sanitation, taxation, economic development,
infrastructure, jobs, and public services if elected.
Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, the National Leader of the All
Progressives Congress too has broken his silence on the increasingly heated
battle for the governorship ticket of the party in Lagos State.
In a
statement on Sunday, hours after the governor held a press conference slamming
his opponent as unfit, Tinubu confirmed his displeasure with the current
government in the state.
“For reasons
unknown to me and most Lagosians, we have experienced such deviations from
enlightened governance recently,” Tinubu said.
“This trend
is that which most concerns me as the primary nears. We must arrest this trend
before irreparable harm is committed against the people and their future.”
He hinted
about his delight at Sanwo-Olu’s emergence, albeit without mentioning his name.
Sanwo-Olu is the only opponent to Governor Ambode.
